Business - Great Ideas

A Basic Understanding.

Google indexes pages on the Web by using what are commonly known as "spiders", "crawlers", or "robots".

Google's famous search engine spider, GoogleBot, uses links on web pages as a sort of freeway. It travels from site to site by following links. When Google finds a new web page, Google will "crawl" the code on the page and transport it back to its datacenter. Google's "FreshBot" may visit "indexed websites" everyday in order to keep the index fresh. How often this is done varies wildly, is often speculated, and varies from site to site.

Google's database maintain billions of pages. They use a proprietary formula (or alogorithm) to "score" the relevancy of websites for each search query. The highest ranking, or "most relevant" websites for a specific query are listed first in the search results.

Take for example the search query "Tiger Woods". Imagine Google maintains two pages in it's index containing the name "Tiger Woods" (in reality it would have hundreds of thousands).

Now imagine the first page displays the following headline, "Tiger Woods Wins Green Jacket". The second page it titled "Greg Norman wins US Open", but mentions Tiger's name (in passing) in the text of the article. Google will most likely rank the first page as "more relevant". The first page would appear above the second in the search results. Some other factors that seem to be major contributing factors in the algorithm of Google and other major search enignes include:

Keyword-rich, visible, on-page content in the form of paragraphs of complete sentences (not keyword after keyword separated by commas. This should be informative, descriptive text using words pertaining to your business.)
Keywords in the title tag
Keywords in the description tag
The number of web pages out on the Web that are linking to your site
The quality of the web pages out on the Web that are linking to your site
The number of links on a page
The keyword density of any particular section of text
Google awards "points" for how often keywords are mentioned, how prominent they are on the page and the location on the page. It is important not to overdo repetitive keywords… Google filters these sites out as "keyword spamming".

It is important to design your site with clean code. For the most part, the more text you have on your site, the better you will rank. This is because Google believes you are providing good information to you visitors. In essence, you are becoming an authority on a topic.

Business Tips of the day

Small Business Thought of The Day - AB Split Testing Tips

Marketing is a science. To do it effectively requires hard data and research. A business needs to know if its marketing plan is working and whether it can be improved. In the world of advertising, doing things the way they've always been done is a surefire way to start losing customers.

AB split testing is one way to analyze your marketing efforts. AB split testing involves separating similar customers into two groups and offering each a different marketing approach. Analyzing their reactions directs you towards the strategy that generates the most revenue through the highest conversion rate.

Your conversion rate tells you how many website visitors are actually becoming customers. The more effective your marketing strategy is, the higher your conversion rate. Continuous review and adjustment keeps your conversion rate high.

Through AB split testing, you can learn about the behavior and preferences of your target market. You can then customize your marketing campaign to suit the tastes of your customers. Reaching your customers with their own language is the most effective marketing technique.

AB split testing also improves the cost-efficiency of your marketing campaign. Instead of spending advertising dollars on marketing that generates little return, you can maximize the return on your investment. The highest impact for the smallest budget should be the goal of your marketing plan.

Using AB split testing lets you test your ideas on a small scale before spending money and time marketing to a larger audience. It takes online marketing out of the realm of hunches and opinions and bases your plan on what actually works.

Time to make good money - you must have for your business

Advertisers specify the words that should trigger their ads and the maximum amount they are willing to pay per click. When a user searches Google's search engine on www.google.com or the relevant local/national google server (e.g. www.google.co.uk for The United Kingdom), ads (also known as creatives by Google) for relevant words are shown as "sponsored links" on the right side of the screen, and sometimes above the main search results.

Qualifying for a Google AdSense Account

Google AdSense is not the only program out there, but it is by far the most popular and it's free. Your blog or website must meet AdSense guidelines by providing content that's acceptable toGoogle.

You can't qualify for a Google Ad Sense account until your website or blog is already in place with content. So you need to get the blogs for your free online businesses set up before you can take this step.

Google AdSense issues its payouts each time you reach at least $100 or monthly, whichever occurs sooner. It's very important that you follow the AdSense guidelines to the letter, otherwise you risk losing any earnings you've already accrued.

What is Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is Google's online advertising program in which advertisers agree to have their ads placed on websites and blogs that contain content that's relevant to the advertiser's business. For example, if you had a blog on cars, those who were advertising items related to cars, such as accessories and car parts would want to advertise on your blog.

With Google AdSense, Google does all the work for you. If you don't like one or more advertisers whose ads are being placed on your blog, you can block that advertiser from having ads displayed on your blog.

We need Google - Great for your Business

1. They made the Web easier to use with Google Search. There were search engines before Google (I worked for one such), but Google seemed to achieve market share where others could not, and has since indexed a greater share of online content. (Now they’re trying to index offline content, too. E.g., through the controversial Google Books project, which of course irks many authors and publishers – all of whom have lost income since the spread of Internet use. Librarians, too, have expressed concern about the value of their own existence.)

2. Leveled the playing field by really enabling the concept of web income opportunities. They did this with the spending and earning of ad dollars, creating a micro-economy online that might eventually rival real-world GDP. Since this is not a closed system (that is, online funds can be moved to the real world), this could be a fundamental reason we’ll never truly have another Great Depression. Small players can build a thriving online business, and that reality was catalyzed by Google.

Don't you love google?

Google Referrals - Here you make money by referring visitors to use a Google product, like AdSense, AdWords, the Google Toolbar and other Google software. Just like Google AdSense for Content and AdSense for Search, Google generates the code that you paste into the desired location on your web page. You can choose from a wide variety of buttons and text links of different colors. As an example of how Google Referrals works, if someone goes to your site and clicks the link and signs up for an AdSense account, when that person earns a $100 from Google AdSense and receives a payout from Google, you'll also receive $100 for referring them. This is a great idea to me, because you can be the world's worst Google AdSense advertiser, but if an ad dynamo happens to visit your site and uses your referral link, you can make money anyway!

Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization is the practice of applying techniques to maximize your ranking in organic, or natural search results. Organic search results are the rankings of Web pages returned by a search engine when you search for a specific word or phrase - a "keyword" or "keyword phrase".

Other Programs Besides AdSense

Yahoo and MSN have similar programs, although those programs aren't as well-developed as Google AdSense and there aren't as many available advertisers to display ads on your site. The fundamentals for making money are the same: You still need plenty of traffic, you still need high-paying ads, and you still need to design your site to harmonize with the ads to get people to click.

Internet Marketing - Online

Don't forget to market your website after you've built it

The Importance Of Internet Marketing

Building a great website can be a rewarding experience, but it doesn't amount to much if you don't get anyone to come and visit it. While content and site design and fast load times might be great aspects of your website, your hard work will be for naught if you don't build up your traffic. Search engine optimization (SEO) is everywhere on the Internet, and if you're site isn't optimized for search engine results, unfortunately you're going to lose out to poorer sites with better SEO practices.

Today is the day to Make more Money for your business

Email marketing is one of the best ways for retailers to promote their products and stay in touch with customers, and holiday and annual events like Mother’s Day provide the perfect opportunity for special promotions," says Campaigner's Steve Adams. "Engaging last minute shoppers can be especially valuable for retailers to connect with customers and provide that extra care and attention that can build customer loyalty and repeat business."

Email marketing can be a great way to get some sales from last-minute shoppers, but that doesn't mean you should wait until the last minute to run your campaign. Not everyone is a procrastinator. And if you'
re looking for some good Mother's day sales, you don't want to be either.

Internet Marketing Business Strategies Introduction

What is Internet Marketing?

Depending on whom you ask, the term Internet marketing can mean a variety of things. At one time, Internet marketing consisted mostly of having a website or placing banner ads on other websites. On the other end of the spectrum, there are loads of companies telling you that you can make a fortune overnight on the Internet and who try to sell you some form of "Internet marketing program".

Today, Internet marketing, or online marketing, is evolving into a broader mix of components a company can use as a means of increasing sales - even if your business is done completely online, partly online, or completely offline. The decision to use Internet marketing as part of a company's overall marketing strategy is strictly up to the company of course, but as a rule, Internet marketing is becoming an increasingly important part of nearly every company's marketing Mix. For some online businesses, it is the only form of marketing being practiced..

nternet Marketing ObjectivesI

Essentially, Internet marketing is using the Internet to do one or more of the following:

  1. Communicate a company's message about itself, its products, or its services online.
  2. Conduct research as to the nature (demographics, preferences, and needs) of existing and potential customers.
  3. Sell goods, services, or advertising space over the Internet.

Internet Marketing Components

· Components of Internet marketing (or online marketing) may include:

· Setting up a website, consisting of text, images and possibly audio and video elements used to convey the company's message online, to inform existing and potential customers of the features and benefits of the company's products and/or services. The website may or may not include the ability to capture leads from potential customers or directly sell a product or service online. Websites can be the Internet equivalents of offline brochures or mail order catalogs and they are a great way to establish your business identity.

· Search Engine Marketing (SEM), which is marketing a website online via search engines, either by improving the site's natural (organic) ranking through search engine optimization (SEO), buying pay per click (PPC) ads or purchasing pay-for-inclusion (PFI) listings in website directories, which are similar to offline yellow page listings.

· Email Marketing, which is a method of distributing information about a product or service or for soliciting feedback from customers about a product or service through Email. Email addresses of customers and prospective customers may be collected or purchased. Various methods are used, such as the regular distribution of newsletters or mass mailing of offers related to the company's product or services. Email marketing is essentially the online equivalent of direct mail marketing.

· Banner advertising, which is the placement of ads on a website for a fee. The offline equivalent of this form of online marketing would be traditional ads in newspapers or magazines.

· Online press releases, which involve placing a newsworthy story about a company, its website, its people, and/or its products/services with on online wire service.

· Blog Marketing = which is the act of posting comments, expressing opinions or making announcements in a discussion forum and can be accomplished either by hosting your own blog or by posting comments and/or URLs in other blogs related to your product or service online.

· Article Marketing: which involves writing articles related to your business and having them published online on syndicated article sites. These articles then have a tendency to spread around the Internet since the article services permit re-publication provided that all of the links in the article are maintained. Article marketing can result in a traffic boost for your website, and the distribution of syndicated articles can promote your brand to a wide audience.

Internet Marketing Glossary

Banner Ad
An advertisement that is displayed on a web page or email. Typically the ad is “clickable” and redirects the respondent to a specific web page. Banner ads are typically priced per impression (cost per impression or CPI), per thousand impressions (CPM) or per click (CPC).

Campaign
A process by which a website owner acquires website visitors, particularly visitors that convert, as well as the conversion and retention processes that follow the acquisition. Campaigns can utilize on-line ads, links, outbound emails, and even off-line triggers such as direct mail, to acquire targeted visitors.

Click-Through-Rate
The percentage of people who see a “clickable” call-to-action, such as an on-line ad, and actually click on it. Also referred to as "CTR."

Conversion
The process by which a website visitor completes a process that is desired by the website owner. In B2C (Business-to-Consumer) sites, a conversion is typically an online sale. For B2B sites, a conversion can be the completion of a form providing the website owner with the visitor's contact information, permission to contact, and other information.

Conversion rate
The percentage of visitors to a web site who complete a process designed by the web marketer. For example, if out of 100 visitors who respond to an ad by clicking on it and coming to a landing page, two go on to complete and submit a form, the conversion rate for that program is 2%.

Leveraging the Internet as a means of communicating a company’s messaging, attracting prospects and customers, and conducting market research.

Search Engine Optimization
The art of gaining top rankings in search results for search terms that are likely to be used by audiences that the marketer is interested in. Also called "Organic" or "Pure Search" because the results displayed are based on the relevance and popularity of the site. No money is paid to the search engines for placement or clicks.

Search Results
The listings displayed by a Search Engine after processing a search term.

Search Term
A keyword or keyword phrase entered into a search engine to perform a search on the Web.

Top Ranking
Generally, a Search Results ranking within the first page of results displayed. Numerous studies have shown that few people search past the first Search Results page, which typically includes 10 - 20 listings.
